If you’re headed to the Windy City next month for PRINT 17, I thought I would give you insider advice on fun things to do in Chicago while you’re here.
Saturday, September 9
Since you probably arrive before the show begins, I suggest you check out a Chicago White Sox home game. They play the Giants at 6:05pm. To access ticket information, go to https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/schedule/2017-09.
Sunday, September 10
Attend Summer Dance Chicago. Learn the Cajun Two-Step and the Waltz and then dance away your evening outdoors to live Cajun music performed by Feufollet. 4-7pm at the Grant Park, Spirit of Music Garden, 601 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago.
Once you build up your appetite, walk a block to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria on 805 S State St, Chicago for their awesome butter crust pizza.
Monday, September 11
Attend a Sunset Cocktail Cruise on the Chicago River. There are discounted tickets to be had from Goldstar Chicago. You can also contact Tours and Boats at River City for more information 312-809-6995. This cruise boards at 6:00 pm at 900 South Wells, Chicago.
Tuesday, September 12
Sightsee. If you walk North on Michigan Avenue from the convention hall, you’ll see the following attractions:
- Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears (more east, but worth the detour)
- Museum Campus (a tad east on Roosevelt Road), home of three first class museums and an amazing view of the Chicago skyline, if you want a photo op.
- Grant Park, home of amazing sculpture and Buckingham Fountain
- The Art Institute
- Millenium Park
- The Bean
- The Cultural Center (Across Michigan at Washington Street) where the great hall boasts one of the most beautiful ceilings you’ll ever see.
While you’re doing all this walking, make sure you go east past Buckingham fountain to check out Lake Michigan. It’s beautiful and looks more like an ocean then a lake.
Wednesday, September 13
If you have a lot of money and love great Broadway, then you cannot miss out on seeing Hamilton. There are tickets available for the Wednesday night performance. Click here to see what seats are available. If you get there early, have dinner at the Italian Village. Food is fantastic and they always have a show special to get you in and out on time for the performance.
Thursday, September 14
Attend the Chicago Nerd Comedy Festival. The line-up on the first night includes a variety of acts that runs for more than 4 hours. While this is farther away from where you’re probably staying, it is definitely worth the Uber ride. The festival will be held at Stage 773, located at 1225 W. Belmont, Chicago. For more information, check out their website for details.
And since you went all the way there, you might as well take a leisurely (8 block) stroll to nearby Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.
If this isn’t for you, then you might want to visit the Art Institute of Chicago on Michigan Avenue. They offer evening hours every Thursday from 5-8 pm. If you happen to be an Illinois resident, then the entrance fee is waived on Thursdays as well. You can see some amazing art here.
We hope you enjoy Chicago, and look forward to seeing you at PRINT! We’d love for you to drop by our booth, #4433, and attend our Product Manager Vel Genov’s presentation Monday, September 11th from 1:30pm – 2:30pm where he will cover how to improve your print workflow, and discuss topics like fonts, images, transparencies, optimization, and other PDF related topics.
